When I first started writing, I sucked, no filter & no lies, I actually sucked.
I had no style, no silky way of telling stories.
I couldn’t even let you feel the slightest thing with my writing, so, how did I become a better writer?
Focus on BETTER!
These writing tips to become a better writer are the real key to actually move from average, to better & greater!
Now you might be reading this even though you’re already a certified & epic writer.
But there’s no rule that says you should stop improving yourself. Am I right?
You could also be reading this knowing that you have no style and no-touch, which is why you’re trying to unleash your powers with this guide.
Then, don’t worry.
This article is for both “suck at” & “great at” writers;
So, here’s how to become a better writer and speaker in 2020
- Read, read & read again!
- Read & Write every day.
- Write about what you love.
- Write down thoughts anywhere & everywhere.
Read, Read & Read Again!
If you dread reading, then, believe me, you’re going to have a hard time becoming a better writer.
I’m not saying you can’t, but you’ll struggle.
Why is reading so important anyway?
Reading is important as it helps you discover so many styles.
If you read at least for 30 minutes a day you’ll guarantee yourself a daily dose of :
“dictionary, grammar, and style & orthography enhancement”.
The more you read the more you’ll be able to find out what you actually enjoy writing.
Thus you’ll be able to find your niche & even become an expert.
This one is one of the most important writing tips to become a better writer.
The more you read, the more you’ll find out in which genre & in which style you fit more!
It’ll also help you collect so many examples, metaphors & words you never knew you needed.
The more you read the more you’ll become a better writer.
Reading will help you find out what to avoid, what to follow, what you don’t like and actually want to change about yourself & writing style.
But, beware. you shouldn’t focus on reading other people’s work only.
You should read what you write over & over again.
As with every reading, you’ll find out better ideas & better examples.
Write Every Day.
Please, please, please don’t be lazy and find this tip dull, boring, or too hard to do!
All of these tips are equally important.
But if you want to become a better writer, this is the secret writing tip that no one would tell you about!
Not only will writing every day help you improve your writing skills, but it’ll also help you brainstorm more ideas than the one you’ll normally think about.
It will also help you write faster which is a very important thing if you’re under a tight schedule, or have work to get done for a client.
Writing every day will help you have a better fluent silky style.
It’ll help you avoid grammar and vocabulary mistakes as you’ll get used to correcting them almost every day!
If you’re too lazy to do this or too afraid, then start by writing for 15 minutes straight in the first week.
Then start by adding 15 minutes every week until you reach your maximum!
Believe me; this will help you immensely in becoming a better writer.
Write About What You Love.
If you’re not motivated about an idea or don’t love writing a kind of genre, then you won’t be able to give in your best.
A lot of people say that going out of your comfort zone will help you discover new realms, but not in writing!
If you want to become a better writer, focus on one style or genre that you can give your best in!
Writing different styles won’t help you become a better writer as you won’t be able to focus on one thing and give it your best.
That is why, be a certain style-centered, discover what works best with it, discover what doesn’t go well with it.
In summary, write what you love and not what other people love and want you to write about.
Writing what you love will help get out of yourself the best qualities possible, and thus help you become a better writer.
Write Down Thoughts Anywhere & Everywhere.
I’ve already spoken about brainstorming earlier and how writing & reading every day will help you brainstorm new ideas!
Well, this isn’t far from that, if you want to become a better writer you’ll need to have ideas of articles & topics to write about.
If you don’t have any idea, then will you be able to write?
You’ll feel as if you’re in a desert & have no water!
So every time you think about something new.
Even if it’s not related to what you always write and are used to, then Just write it down as you might be able to get something out of it later on.
This is why it’s important to write down any thought that creeps into your mind onto your phone, laptop, or you name it.
Gathering those thoughts is what’s going to enable you to always keep writing, every day for the rest of your writing career.
